How To Get Promoted

I just read an insightful article from Andy Porter at the Fistful of Talent Blog about "How to get a promoted" within an organization. His main points are:
1. Don't expect spelled out criteria on how to get promoted -- There will always be ambiguity and subjectivity in the process.
2. It's not what you know, but who you now. Organizational politics matter.
3. Organizations move very slowly to promote from within. Be patient.

I like this post, but I thought I would add a few criteria that are absolutely essential:

A. BE EXTRAORDINARILY COMPETENT AT WHAT YOU DO --

B. QUANTIFY YOUR IMPACT ON THE ORGANIZATION'S FINANCIAL METRICS --

C. WORK HARDER AND SMARTER THAN EVERYONE ELSE --

D. BE A TEAM PLAYER --

E. HELP OTHERS IN THE ORGANIZATION SUCCEED --

F. BE CRYSTAL CLEAR REGARDING YOUR CAREER AMBITIONS AND GOALS TO YOUR BOSS, UPPER MANAGEMENT AND THE HR DEPARTMENT

H. IDENTIFY AND PROCURE A SENIOR LEVEL EXECUTIVE SPONSOR/MENTOR

I. QUIT AND GO TO ANOTHER COMPANY IF YOU HAVE TO
