recent commentary by former General Electric CEO, Jack Welch argues that during times of layoffs and restructuring HR departments have a moment to shine in the spotlight. In reality processing layoffs is not a core competency that HR professionals should strive to obtain. Should layoffs be administered in a humane and respectful way? Absolutely -- but at the end of the day the key part of a layoff is offering a decent severance package. That is all people really care about.
